So much of our memory is tied to our sense. A certain smell, sound, sight, taste brings back a flood of memory. For this post, describe a memory that you have that is tied to a sense. For example, when I smell pancakes, I am immediately transported to Fair Hills Resort--a resort that I have been going to since I was a kid. All of the meals are served in the dining hall, and it does not matter what time of day it is, the hall always smells like pancakes. Fair Hills if my favorite place on earth, so I am sure that leads to me having a stronger memory connection. These days, I make pancakes (from scratch, of course) every Saturday morning, and it offers a nice escape to my nirvana.

Okay, as this is the last blog post before Thanksgiving, I thought it would be appropriate for us to discuss the best holiday of the year. Yes, you read that right. Thanksgiving is the best holiday of the year. It is an entire day devoted to cooking and eating. For you post, talk to us about this grand holiday. What dish do you look forward to the most? Least? Any traditions (parade, football, etc)? What are you thankful for this year (I told some people in 2A I would include that last part)? Feel free to answer all of these questions, some of these questions, or none--just talk about the holiday. Gobble, gobble!
Okay, now my part. Tips for the best Thanksgiving dinner: 1. You HAVE to have a fresh turkey--if your turkey was ever frozen, you are missing out. Now, I understand fresh turkeys are harder to come by and they are more expensive, but if you have the means, I highly recommend. 2. Good or bad (almost always bad), you have to watch the Lions (or at least have it on in the background) 3. For the best and creamiest mashed potatoes, use a ricer after they are mashed. For those that do not know what I am talking about, a ricer is "a utensil with small holes through which boiled potatoes or other soft food can be pushed to form particles of a similar size to grains of rice." 4. Cranberries are stupid 5. Gravy should be on the thicker side--use some flour and/or cornstarch in your juice to get a nice consistency 6. Brining is the only way to go when prepping a turkey 7. Everyone should sit at the same table, if possible. Last year we had 30 people at the same table at my house. 8. Make sure to make way more than you actually will eat--leftovers are a must 9. Appetizers are tricky--they are a must, especially if people are coming over well ahead of eating, and you, of course, want them to be good, but if they are TOO good, then you run the risk of filling up 10. On the note of filling up, keep bread off the table--plenty of carbs already on the plate, no need filling up with something boring like bread. --Okay, I have like 100 more, but I will save them for anyone that actually cares. |
